Private by default
Courses, materials, documents and progress are scoped to the account that owns them. Proofline is for individual students: nothing is shared with or reported to a school. Study groups see only the copies you choose to share. AI processing is opt-in, and research requires explicit search consent. Account export and deletion are available in Billing & account; study data can be exported from your study profile.
Academic integrity
Each assignment has an AI policy you set from your course rules. “Guidance only” limits AI to explanations, questions and feedback, and “Not permitted” switches AI off for that assignment's drafts; both are enforced on the server. Every AI request on an assignment is logged so you can write an accurate disclosure. You remain responsible for following your institution's rules.
Where information goes
Requested AI actions send relevant course material or writing to the configured OpenAI, Anthropic or Copilot connection. Recordings you choose to transcribe are sent to OpenAI. Research sends its question and searches to Crossref or Tavily. Uploaded English OCR uses a local engine. Provider terms and retention policies apply; this is not a promise of universal zero retention.
Evidence, not certainty
Tutor citations and practice questions are checked against exact quotes from your materials, and unverifiable ones are removed or labelled. That check does not prove a claim is correct. Topic progress is based on your practice answers and is not a prediction of your grade. AI-content style signals, editable metadata and Unicode artifacts do not establish authorship. No detector-evasion or misconduct verdict is promised.
Security and operations
Passwords are salted and hashed. Provider credentials are encrypted separately from the database key. Browser changes require session verification. Public deployment requires operator configuration, HTTPS and operational controls. No independent security certification or uptime SLA is claimed.
Payment data
Configured subscriptions use Stripe-hosted payment pages. Proofline stores billing identifiers and a usage ledger, not payment-card details. The operator must publish its legal entity, support contact and approved policies before live billing.
